Alaska Department of Labor Compliance & Daily Overtime Rules
Employment in Alaska is regulated by the Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development under Alaska Statute Title 23:
Mandatory 8-Hour Daily Overtime
Unlike most states that only require overtime after 40 weekly hours, Alaska law mandates 1.5ร overtime pay for any hours worked beyond 8 in a single day, as well as beyond 40 hours in a workweek.
State Unemployment Employee Contribution
Alaska is one of only three states (alongside PA and NJ) where employees pay a small state unemployment insurance (SUI) tax contribution via payroll deduction (0.50% to 0.60%).
Semi-Monthly Payday Requirements
Under Alaska Statute 23.10.040, employers must establish regular paydays at least semi-monthly or bi-weekly. All wages earned in a pay period must be paid within 10 days of period end.
Termination Pay Timelines
If an employee is discharged or terminated in Alaska, all final wages must be paid within 3 working days. If an employee resigns, wages are due on the next regular payday.
